Dungeons and Dragons!
One day, 5 kids (School Friends, so they all apparently knew one another quite well,) go into the Depths of The Realm via a Magical Roller Coaster Ride known to us “Mere Mortals” as “Dungeons and Dragons”. They all get dropped off into the middle of a battle between the evil Venger and the even MORE evil (as it would turn out later) Tiamat the Dragon. Somebody (at the moment, they don’t know exactly who) starts pointing at them and giving them weapons (I think the “Original 1980s Show Intro” was the ONLY TIME that Presto’s hat worked as intended) and starts saying “Fear Not .......etc. etc. etc.”.
Yeah Sure Uh-huh. I’m in the middle of a strange field, there’s a battle going on, people are zapping weapons at ME (well, into my hands anyway) in what ‘used to be THIN AIR’, and I’m being told “Fear Not, here’s your career path! Good Luck!” Uh ..what? I mean Come on, fellas. Even in “Real Dungeons and Dragons” us “True Players” do not even go NEAR Character Classes for a game (which this was supposed to be ‘animated reality’ unless of course we know a LITTLE something about what we are doing.
Yes, we may not be such as in “Real Reality”(hence the term ‘Fictional Board Game’ (whoever heard of a Thimble being a Landlord, anyway?, and yet no one complains about Monopoly being ‘too real’ lol;) but at least we pick Characters we know how to handle a LITTLE. These kids, once the weapons were in their hands, just as ‘Magically’ knew what to do, how to use them, and how to handle their skills. Yes, Presto messed up at every turn, but I get the feeling that this is how he would have played a “Magician” in “Real D&D”. This cartoon was “loosely based” upon the Game of the Same Name, and obviously not meant to be taken too seriously.
